"NTLM authentication failed" error when connecting to
a web with Visual InterDev 6 from home
There are a variety of fixes for this problem. Assuming the problem is not on the server,
then the following sequence of steps may work.
- In the Control Panel select Network
and then
- Select Configuration tab
- From the list select Client for Microsoft
Networks
- Select Properties
- Under General Logon validation select Log
on to Windows NT domain
- For the Windows NT domain enter the domain
on which your web is located, for instance, COMPSCI
- For Network logon options select either
option
- Your computer will now go through an installation
sequence and reboot.
- In My Compter select Dialup
Networking and then
- Select your dialup connectoid (the icon of a
phone with two computers attached)
- Select Properties
- Selct the Server Types tab
- Under Advanced options select Log on to
network and under Allowed network protocols select TP/IP
- From now on whenever you make a dialup connection
a dialog will popup asking for your network user name and password. For reasons not worth
going into, this information probably will not be accepted as valid, but that is not a
problem. Simply cancel the dialog. Later when you use InterDev 6, you will have
another chance to provide this information.
